So I'm just going through the motions of starting this 1992 ZX-7R motorcycle up for the first time in a long time... years! Which way turns the fuel selector rotary knob to "ON" - "OFF" and "Reserve"? Seems like a dumb question but I don't see any index mark or arrow to point the selections to. I just don't want to take the fuel hose off the pump I guess.... a little lazy yes. I looked in the repair manuals and forums and no one has answered this question for me.
Ok I figured this one out. The mark #1 is the index mark because it's the only one that you can get all three indications on the rotary knob to line up at. To looking at the bike if you have the selector knob turned vertical then it's getting fuel. If you turn it so the fuel knob is horizontal then the fuel SHOULD be turned off. But in my case the fuel won't turn off because the petcock needs to be rebuilt!
I just had to test it out the old fashioned way by taking it off with a 10mm socket and removing the carb supply hose and watch the fuel flow. Smelly job but had to do it.
The arrow you were looking for is on the tail section where the knob comes through. You are correct. It is forward on the 91-92. I flip the hoses around. This knob is tough to change in that direction when riding. Much easier in reverse.
I thought I looked close enough on the bodywork but I guess I still missed it. I'll have to lookup a rebuild kit for this thing so the fuel will actually stop when it's turned off.
