CA160 stator

Post by ramwing7 »

Since I get continuity between all the wires on my 1966 CA160 stator, I'm guessing it's toast. In looking for a replacement, they seem rare. But, CB and CL160 stators are easier to come by. They look similar in parts illustrations, but can anyone tell me if they are interchangeable?
Thanks.

Good Question! The CA160 stator part number differs with the CB160 stator part number. The engines are the basically the same except the CB160 has a different head & carb and top mount set up. I would guess that they are interchangable.

I think the stator should interchange with all engines in the family up to the 175 sloper (and I believe the verticals too (69 and up). Used ones are on ebay for about $20 and up but with used electrical parts its always a crapshoot.

Got another mystery. According to my wiring diagram the stator has a pink, brown and light green with red stripe coming out. My stator has a Brown, pink, and dark green wiht yellow stripe coming out. These plug into corresponding colors on the wiring harness. In addition I have a light green with a red stripe that plugs into the wiring harness and goes toward the stator, but plugs into nothing. Any guesses? My wiaring diagram shows a neutral switch which I don't have. Maybe that?
Gotta love the 40+ year old mysteries. : )

Yes, it's the neutral light switch wire. it will have a male end and reach to just above the drive sprocket.

Found it! Not what I expected it to look like, but it's there.
Thanks.
