Default shock seperation

hello from canada. have been away from this site for awhile .i have been riding my 63 all summer after a engine rebuild.things are pretty good with the benly,put 286km on the rebuild.i have now stripped the benly again getting set for a new paint job.my question is about the shocks and dismantling it for paint. any ideas would be appreciated..

The pics are self explanatory. The wrench shown is a 17mm open end wrench. If the shock stem is not slotted and it's difficult to disassemble, slot the stem with a dremmel tool to fit a screwdriver.

Always a pleasure to help. When reassembling the shock and to avoid scratching your newly painted shock cover, enlist a helper with strong hands to compress the spring down while holding the shock cover in place. This will allow you to screw on the upper mount and once aligned, simply allow the cover to rise up into the mount.
