What an awesome bike. One of my favorites of all time. That sucker was made for the track with it's tall 1st gear, slightly different jetting, different cams and aluminum tank. I remember reading the magazine editors comments on how much of a pain it was to leave a stop light with the different transmission. But you don't buy a bike like this to ride around town. =]

Ok this isn't the famous first gen ZX-7R but it's a nice start for all my photos.

And have a look at the best YSR50 paint job ever. Of course being in high school I couldn't afford to buy my ZX-7R most favorite bike. But I could paint my little toy like one! The paint came out pretty damn good and I did a damn good "sympathetic" restoration job on the little guy. I put the Toomey racing kit on it and it pulled pretty good on the top end... bottem end was crap as you could imagine. It was a fun 60mph indeed and I rode this thing 20 miles to my girlfriends house in the middle of the night a million times.

Just an update because I love the ZX-7R and there are a LOT of people doing the ZX-7 + ZX9 engine. Micah @ AF1 Racing in Texas is a HUGE ZX-7R fan and has had some time tinkering with one of these ZX7/9 conversions and they sound impressive! I would personally have to see this bike to decide but if it was a cherry conversion I would be powerless to resist. Not that I have that much money laying around for such things.
So I have been contacted by the owner of a 1994 ZX7/9 conversion. It has 39mm Keihin flatslide carbs, 1mm overbore 13:1 ZX9 Muzzy piston kit, 40 lbs lighter than stock, he swears it weighs in at 420 lbs with enough fuel in the tank to ride it for a few miles....the only issue really is color and that the base bike is not the "R". It is the horrible all black and purple...but in near showroom state....and all the pink stickers are removed.

The ZX9 engine swap is very common on these bikes and really works well. This one did 148.5 DJ bhp, heat output is a little greater due to oversize motor but so is torque output...hmmmm. Price is reasonable, less than $4k.

If only it were green....God I love that color so much on the 1993-1995 bikes.

My thinking of course is that as a total loss project, the paint work is done to get the color I want, Ohlins go on to replace the Fox twin clicker out back and Race Tech front forks, then Aprilia wheels can be used along with brakes and pumps...and another 10-25 lbs is gone. Wheels in 5 spoke or 10Y style OZ could be painted Lime green for little money. Stock ZX9 carbs go back on, I could give a flying fuck about the 5-8 bhp lost, the ease of use and predictability is priceless.

Motor is fresh, all gears mesh well, bottom and top ends were done at the same time by a well known and reputable Kawasaki specialist, verified personally and have decent faith....

Tough call....the cost of doing the paint alone will be over $1000 or less if I decide to learn to paint in my spare time, all bodywork is perfect for paint due to NEVER even dropped condition.

There is a lot of action over here on this forum with some gentlemen playing around with ZX-7RRs. What makes this thread more interesting than not is the sprinkling of factory race parts. This is some great reading for Kawasaki fans. EDR Performance Kawasaki ZX-7RR factory.

Just picked up the ZX-7R this past week!! Wohooo!!

I had to do the tough guy pose to mimic Vanilla Ice and his movie Cool As Ice. Yeah he rode a GSXR in that movie but since this bike is from the same generation of streetbike I had to do it.

Is that the one from Sac on eBay?

Sorry didn't get notice of this thread update. No my friend has owned it for a very long time. It sat outside half under a cover for a few years. He bought it from a local dealership in the late 1990's I think.

Beautiful bike. I hope you got the tail pad. Impossible to find.

I will have to ride one of my R bikes down to slo town so we freak out the local Kawasaki dealer. I just picked up my third 92 R (K model) to go with my 94 R (M model) and also rounded out the corral with a new 96 RR (N model).

Luckily I've been keeping it in a safe place!



It would be cool to cruise these bikes around. It shouldn't be too much longer before I get my 94 R. That 96 is an awesome looking machine. Are you going to go black? Red/Purple or Green Purple?

The 96 has been powdercoated on the frame, subframe, swingarm, and forks. I was not happy initially, but it is growing on me. I am looking a couple others so I may make this a track beast. The tail was painted black with a white number plate. Real quality paint on it. It has not upper or lowers. Still debating on color.
