Agreed. If they are already the correct color,
You could use a 3M headlight restoration kit to bring a glossy shine back to the plastic.
I picked up a set of the metal top cover ones on eBay
For about $50 and had them powder coated.

Thanks guys, good information! Since I took it down to bare metal would it be sacrilege to change the colour to red? Glossy black is so nice but I'm getting partial to bright red. Cliff.

No harm in changing color. However, a stock Honda color (red, white blue, black) will generally get you more at resale than a custom color, because it opens you up to the collector audience as well.

It will be a stock Honda red. I have a red parts bike that my paint guy can colour match to. Cheers, Cliff.

A quick experiment with Tremclad Fire Red, no prep and in the rain, sprayed on some parts bike bits. The bottom third of the round part has the new paint on it. Looks close and it's bright red. Cliff.

One more. it's strange how the colour changes from inside the garage and outside. it's bright! Not the final product, just playing with some spare parts.

Looks like a great match to me. Is "Tremclad fire red" a rattle can from your local hardware store?

It's a richer red than the original I think. All the pieces I have have faded a fair bit. It really pops in the sunshine but may disturb some of the purists.

I've polished much of the aluminium bits so it will be quite shiny all over.

Hi Sam! Yes, still hanging around. I am waiting for a friend to do some painting for me. First my 1970 CB750K0 in candy blue green then Ben in Fire Red. I have both engines assembled and just did the valves clearance and static ignition timing.
Hope you are doing well. I just sent you a Friend request on Facebook.
Cheers,
Cliff.
