I've always been interested in the Futura model. Heck, I wouldn't mind owning one after my experience with the Rotax engine. There is nothing to be afraid of once a couple tiny issues are ironed out. Nowadays there are plenty of parts out there incase any replacements or upgrades are needed. As long as you can do a little wrenching yourself you will be just fine owning one of these fine Italian machines. Just don't expect to get much help from your dealer... unless they are one of the few Aprilia dealerships.

A few links and handy threads on he Aprilia Futura motorcycle:

SportRider.com intial impressions and first ride on the Futura. (http://www.sportrider.com/bikes/146_0108_aprilia_rst1000_futura/index.html)

Again, SportRider.com comparing the Futura (http://www.sportrider.com/sportbike_product_reviews/146_0502_sport_touring_motorcycles/index.html) with the competition: BMW, VFR, Triumph ST, Ducati ST4. This is a great article.

These are great reviews but nothing beats the wisdom of the members over at the Aprilia Forum. (http://www.apriliaforum.com/forums/showthread.php?t=168913) This particular thread has all sorts of people talking about owning one. If you really want to get the details on this bike head over there and do some reading. You will be able to do just about every kind of maintenance work on any Aprilia by just reading the information on the ApriliaForum and there are plenty of members willing to answer questions and help out.

Thread about someone contemplating owning a Futura.

The bike is also a LOT quicker than people think. They share the same frame as the Mille and are fairly lightweight and have a great lean angle. Have a look at this youtube video of a Futura getting busy (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-pQstgxaoLM&feature=related)in some traffic on a windy road.

Here is one with a standard exhaust but more importantly a look at the dash board as it lights up when the ignition is turned on at night. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pwmsdGjABio&feature=related

And this is a really good looking red Futura with standard exhaust starting up during the day. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hLgk1HewUcY&feature=related
