In my area (Kansas) for a bike that's been siting for 17 years I'd say probably in the $200-$600 range depending on how it was stored. A general rule of thumb around here is that if it runs and drives, it's worth at least $800 no matter what it is. The 454 is kind of an odd duck in that it looks like a cruiser of the period, but srunched up and with low displacement. I've seen really pristine ones go for under $1,500 around here before. Title is definitely king on a bike like this and since you have it it puts you in the higher spectrum for asking prices.

I think non-running, with some elbow grease to get it shiny again, you could get $600 out of it. But the market out in South Carolina may dictate a higher price!

That is an EXCELLENT price! I would have jumped on it too for such a measly sum! Though I'm thinking the 900 gpz motor might call for some frame reinforcement and suspension/brake upgrades haha!

Ahh that's a nice bike indeed. I think I talked to a guy at a truck stop a few months back that was riding that exact same bike! He got it for nothing from his brother or something and was loving it. I saw him at the truck stop at 4am and he had all sorts of necessities strapped and hanging off every side of that bike. It was really something to look at. All I thought was, "damn that guy has it right." It's all about riding! He was really happy with the bike and said all it needed was a battery and a spark plug wire or something. You know that thing is bulletproof. And putting a 900 engine into it? OH boy that is a bit much for that thing. :) Just make sure whatever you do... swap those handlebars out for something more straight. Those big M shaped bars offer no leverage at all. I swapped some out on a Virago and it made it much more safe. You can get them for about $15 from JC Whitney I believe and they are a must have.

I would run that bike with that original engine. I prefer enjoying 50+ MPG and keeping the tires firmly planted on the asphalt. :] New tires are cheap insurance as well! I'm done risking my butt on tires that squeal mercy when you hardly tap the brakes to slow down. JC Whitney has some great ones for such a machine.

WOW that's a high dollar item! I never would have guessed that they cost that much money for those drive belts.

I don't recommend such weight and rubber contact patch with such a small engine. MPG would probably suffer along with performance. You should find something cheap in the 750 or 800+ range for that purpose. Let's see it cleaned up and running first. :)

Haha yeah I'm not a huge fan of 3 wheelers either! Thanks for the update. In CA we just get get a form and declare the status of the motorcycle and that it's a restoration from a junk pile. As long as there is no record of the VIN at the DMV then it's not a problem at all. It's a 15 minutes process as long as the clerk at the DMV can clearly read the VIN off the engine and motorcycle frame.
