The speedo and odometer are driven by different gears. Either the gears for your speedometer are gummed up and need lube or they are chewed up and not working anymore. The gears that drive the speedo are in the bottom of the speedo bucket and the ones on my original speedometer were rusted to crap while the drive gears for the odometer were fine. They seem to collect crap and sit in moisture more than the odometer gears.
