Oh boy the chain guard is VERY hard to get in good shape (well for a good price I should say : ). Everyone took them off for obvious reasons so they got lost, tossed or beat up.

Is it really required or more of an aesthetic part?

Oh it's just for looks. I don't have one on my blue bike. I have a cover from my parts bike I would have to restore but I won't be doing that anytime soon. Yeah they get in the way and they came with the bikes just to make them look nice and smooth. They might keep the chain lube from spraying around on the bike if you put too much on. But just clean up the chain, coat it with lubricant or WD-40 and wipe it off really good with a rag and you shouldn't have hardly anything come off the chain.

Oh and speaking about chains.. make sure and check out my chain restoration thread. The chain I restored was like a stick from a tree before I got to work on it. I've never bought a chain for any old Honda I've restored or fixed up. You can bring them back from the dead. http://www.fourwheelforum.com/showthread.php?t=241

I'll definately check that link, but my chain is actually still nice and loose. Have to tighten it a bit as I have nearly 2" of play though haha

Hohlederschatten you dog - yeah I haven't had to ever buy a classic Honda chain. I would like one for my Superhawk just for safety sake... but that's a larger chain.
ANyhow, wow that Honda isn't lookin so bad at all! Even has good tires. Make sure when you are going through it that you locktite EVERYTHING. And especially put some Locktite on the fuel tank emblems. I've seen every part on these bikes loosen up from vibration. Now you just need some mirrors and you'll be looking pretty. |
