That's pretty cool. I've always wanted to swap a different carb on one of my little Hondas. I'm prepping my CL70 for use as my camping bike this summer and if it didn't run so good I would swap a bigger carb on it.
 Now it's making me start to wonder if I should. hehe

Funny , you should mention a carb swap ! I picked up a Mikuni vm 22 mm carb about a month ago . I just bought a 1/2'' x 6" piece of alum. flat stock and I'm getting ready to do some layout on the alum. in prep for cutting an adapter blank .
I picked the 22mm carb because it's flanged like to original Keihen . It has a wider bolt spacing and with the addition of the alum. spacer I hope to mate the new Mikuni to the head . I have a spare motor so everything is on the work bench . Last edited by kartgreen; 03-13-2012 at 02:46 PM.

I have a Mikuni VM22 carb mounted on my blue custom and so far it's working out very well .A machinist friend made an adapter plate from 1/2" stock . It took 3 attempts and we had to remove the carb isolator but we still have the breather passages from the head milled into the adapter with the vent hose coming out the bottom right side .
I was concerned about removing the carb isolator because it also acts as a heat sink or heat barrier from the head to the carb but so far the carb has stayed cool but I've only run the engine for about 10 mins. at a time . ok here is what I am thinking. I measured the carb mount and comming up with 38mm center to center. Instead of fabricating something completely from scratch, couldnt we use something like the below in order to install a spigot style carb. I could easily weld a pipe into the hole, find a rubber sleve to mate the spigot carb and hose clamp it on? what ya think?

well my background with engines has been with outboard boat motors (boats are my first love). Motorcyles are new to me but the prinicipals are the same. there is nothing really wrong with my stock carb. I have rebuilt it with the crummy keyster carb kit and still waiting on the float bowl gasket, but It is just I know from my experiance, carburation can make a huge difference in the response, reliability, and power of an engine. I have replaced carbs on outboards and the motor will behave completely different. I just think a new modern carb could help with all of these aspects, and like you said at the begining of this thread a CV carb could add a lil more umph to the old benly.
