Default CA95 oil filter problem

Got a problem re-installing the oil filter oon my CA95. It is seated on crankshaft ok but when I intstall the cover, the motor doesn't turn over. I have misplaced the washer that goes between filter and cover, so don't know what thickness should be. If I loosen cover even 1mm, motor turns over ok. The rib on oil cover with oil galley looks like something has been chronically scraping there. So wondering if there is a trick to re-assembling it correctly, and if anybody knows how thich the stock washer is.

Also if I tap the oil pump onto the crank as far as it will go, it is off center and wobbles when motor turns over.

After this, I am not far from attempting to start this bike for the first time in maybe 20-30 years. Can't wait!

sounds like somethings wrong with the oil spinner. It should seat into the crank without being off center. The washer you speak of is about .0010 but it does have a tab on it that fits into the oil filter assembly. It should not jam into the case.

Thanks Spokes! I'll try and take some photos. Did you mean .010" (10 thou)? I will check thickness. Washer is discontinued so may have to scrounge something up. Hopefully the filter is the correct part.

oops. 10 thousands. I have an extra spinner I can send with the washer on it. Postage only. PM with an address if interested.

You mentioned the washer has a tab in it that fits onto the filter... my filter has no notch or hole on the outer side that would accept a tab. It is just smooth. I wonder if the wrong filter got installed at some point in its life?

Well take a picture and we'll be able to tell. And a couple basic measurements with a micrometer would be great.

Thanks Smithers, Spokes has been helping me. Looks like the washer between filter and cover was missing, and also one of the screws had a slightly larger head than the others and was hitting cover. Clearance is tight! Hopefully the new filter will resolve it.

Got that thing back together? I laid out all the parts associated with this subject a while ago. Pictures here: http://www.fourwheelforum.com/forum/showthread.php?t=104

yup. Thanks to some help from Spokes, I figured out that a previous owner had installed the wrong oil spinner unit. It was too long and had been rubbing.
Now onto my next issue, its back together but not starting.
