CA95 name?
 

I'm sure this is an easy question, but I've had kids at motorbike shops tell me I'm wrong saying it's a 95 when it is 150cc?

So should it be the Honda CA150? I dunno, I just know my bike is a '63 Honda CA95 and have no comment why there's no 150 in the name to designate 150cc. All my other bikes seem to have the CC's in the name.

Your CA95 displaces 154cc. Here's the story ... I'm sure the gang will correct me where needed.

In the beginning, Honda used model numbers that were more or less arbitrary, and did not approximate the engine size. In fact, in those days, the larger numbers tended to reflect smaller engines:

US Export Names: (general export names sometimes differed)
Honda Dream 250 (CA72), Dream 300 (CA77), Scrambler (CL77), Super Hawk (CB77)
Honda 50 (Super Cub) (C100, C102)
Honda Benly Touring 125 (CA92), 150 (CA95)

We could go on, but starting with new models introduced in 1965 and later, Honda modified it's naming convention to reflect an approximate engine size or class. This started with the CB450 for 1965, with its 444 cc engine. Sometimes this approximation was stretched a bit, as the CB350 for 1968 displaced 325.6 cc.

Models that were already in production by 1965 tended to keep their model designation, so the CA95 (and C95 general export) Benly Touring 150 soldiered on. When the redesigned 161cc engine replaced the 154cc engine for 1966, the bike was renamed using the new convention and the Benly name was dropped from the US, giving us the CA160 Touring 160.

Is the CA160 the same as the CB93?....or CA93.....or C93?

The CB93 used the 124cc twin engine and a totally different frame than the CA95/CA160.

Actually I think the CB93 is the Honda (early) designation for the CB160- At least I know the generator rotor and the advance mechanism is marked as such. But that version of the 125 was in the "family" of engines (at least according to Clymer) so the parts may have carried over-

The CB160 (sport) perhaps, but not the CA160 (touring), which used the stamped frame.
