    Hey Jon you don't have to split the transmission if you don't want to. Just flush it out with a couple quarts of oil to make sure any contamination is flushed out and the bearings in the crankshaft are lubricated prior to starting up the bike. Of course you might want to do it to fix the oil leaks. The gaskets and oil seal kit are cheap.

    And if you have any problems there are plenty of pictures here on the forum for you to reference for guidance. It's up to you. It's not terribly complicated at all. It just depends on how much time you want to spend on the engine and how much oil it is leaking. Make sure to clean the engine and pinpoint exactly where the oil is coming from. It might be dripping down on your transmission from above that area.
