Yet another part request....

Hey Benly people,

Would anyone have a spare transmission locating pin lying around?
After stripping the bottom end on the weekend I found that the countershaft locating pin had been 'bent' towards the outside of the hole it sits in.:(
When I removed the pin it has actually been squished and will need replacing.

Any ideas how/why this could happen?

Sounds like the engine locked up whilst in gear. I don't believe this to be a oil hole so you might try a pin made from locally acquired 4130 steel or similar. I'd carefully inspect the gear teeth and contact faces.
Looking forward to Sam coming to my part of the world to do some racing... sadly his last outing according to his FB posts- it'll be good to meet him tho, even in white leathers (him not me).

Here's a couple of photos showing the damage to the pin, and the resulting rubbing to the cranckcases...

I'm not too concerned about the gears themselves as I have a CA95 trans to go instead...:D

and I've also found you guys on Facebook....excellent pages both!:cool:

You need to ask yourself, what would cause the bearing/bush to want to spin to cause damage like that ?
Probably, the PO trying to close the cases when the pin wasn't located.
I cant believe that that bush could lock up.

Yeah, I have thought about how it could happen....the way it was bent was to the side, I'm thinking that it was an axial load, not a radial. I don't think the bush could generate that sort of spinning force considering the clearance it has on the c/shaft shaft. A sideways load...?....I like your idea of an assembly oops
but could other oopsers (?:rolleyes:) include:
Chain has been dropped off at sometime as the outside edge of the rear sprocket carrier has the outside edge rounded off
Cylinder head shows rubbing from cam chain (loose or broken?)
Piston has been 'smoothed off' and one oil drain hole below oil ring has been blocked off completely (looks like solid aluminium?)...been filed!
Piston ring lands are missing chuncks
Piston rings appear to have excessive side clearances
Cylinder head combustion chambers have heaps of dents

?....I'm wondering if she's had a piston lock-up at some stage (maybe causing the sprocket carrier/trans damage?), then the PO has done a half-hearted rebuild with race rings instead of the thicker std ones....and it was after this point that the circlip has decided to depart the groove (the circlip groove has been bent out on the side with minimal metal):confused:

Always good fun to try and work out what has gone wrong with a machine when you pull it apart :D

This engine death sounds like it was a result of a sloppy rebuild combined with excessive rpms. It probably happened under full throttle. I can see/hear it now....

Winding out the gears and at the highest rpm/load the drive chain breaks. The engine screams at max +rpms and the sloppy work let go and parts pieces fall everywhere...BANG-STOP!

Make sure you have the crankshaft checked out when you repair the engine. I have a set of original std pistons for the CA95 I can send down if you need them.

To be honest, looking at the marking on the inside of the case could suggest a gearbox explosion and lockup at high revs.:(

Spokes - Thanks for the offer but she's a C92 and her holes are too tight for those monster CA95 boys....:D:D .
I'm sure she'll be happy with the CB92 pistons, CA95 cam and CA95 transmission...small up top but she'll have long legs...:D:D:D
